Virginia Bound

After more than a year of preparation for "the big test" and having been waiting since late September when applications were sent the day has come. Over the past month our minds changed countless times and we narrowed a list of twelve possibilities to 4 final contenders. Daily Kim and I would think we were headed to different schools for completely different reasons. We would consider cost, employment opportunity, location, climate, community, bar passage rates, region of the country, urban vs. rural setting, rank & prestige and almost daily something would carry more weight than it did the day before. This ever changing process of deciding and redeciding has taken it's toll on us, especially me over the last couple of weeks. In all my life I have desired to do three things; reach my potential, be who I said I would be, and have an eternal family. This decision only slightly effects the last two but takes head on the first.

Sleepless nights have however led us to a realization that despite the logic or the underlying cost of my education we needed to follow the Spirit and our hearts (which strangely were saying the same thing). After visiting William and Mary last weekend I felt the peace that I was seeking. I felt what can only be described as an answer to many prayers uttered by both Kim and me. This direction has been confirmed to us and now we take our step into the dark having faith that with hard work we will be successful.

This decision has led me to follow the life philosophy that numbers and decimal points had almost made me forget. That is that in life we are often presented with a fork in the road, a moment in time when we decide who we will be. In our case we had many wonderful options each with glamorous benefits, but only one presented us with a truly unique opportunity to escape our comfort zone and grow. The road less traveled is often the road we need the most. And so we are excited to announce that we will be moving to Virginia later this summer and beginning a 3- year adventure on the East Coast.

Who knew that my first acceptance letter received back in November would end up being the only one I needed. . . (now please make plans to come visit us!)
