Shake it off and take a step up

For those of you who have heard me speak in a public setting or have been around me much you have heard this short story.

The Donkey and the Well
There was once a farmer who had an old donkey and a dried up well. One day while working the donkey stumbled and fell into the well. At first the farmer thought what I am to do but soon determined that the donkey was old and nearly useless and the well needed to be filled in anyway. So he called all his neighbors to help him fill in the old well. As the shoveling of the dirt commenced the donkey began by crying horribly as he realized his fate. However with time all that were gathered were amazed as the crying soon became silent and they noticed that something incredible was taking place. As each shovel load of dirt was thrown into the well, the donkey would let the dirt hit his back, then we would shake it off and take a step up. This continued till eventually the well was filled and the donkey trotted away.

May we all be a little bit more like the donkey that won't give up and a little less like the farmer who gave up on others.
